ABOUT THE LOGO
The 2009 Centennial design was created by local artist, Barbara Mulligan, for the purpose of celebrating the 2009 Centennial.
The format uses an art deco theme which was used in the early development of the city. A sunrise shape is placed in the four corners to represent the four communities which make up the city proper: The Downtown district, Millville, Glenwood and St. Andrew. The top center shapes represent all four as one large sunrise surrounded by the four communities. A shorebird connects the symbols with an upward flight. In the lower center three Sabal Palms, the Florida state tree, stand by the shore along St. Andrews Bay. Each palm represents the past, present and future of the city.
The entire design was created as a 'stained glass' pattern using the three dominate colors found in the area; blues, greens and golden brown. The font in the text connects a style used in the past one hundred years but is modernized with a slant. Touches of metallic gold over the painted surfaces is an attempt to create a 'glass' look. The grey panels on each side of the design incorporates ground oyster shells for use in the pigment.
